Understanding the Benefits Subgroups Area
What benefit subgroups are
Benefit subgroups let employers offer different benefits and contributions to different sets of employees. For example, full-time employees might receive a different benefit package than part-time employees.
In BerniePortal, benefits are subgroup-based: you attach plans to a specific benefit subgroup so the right employees receive the right offer.
Who can open this area
Employers with Benefits enabled, and Benefits Feature Admins, can open the Benefits Subgroups area. Users who are masquerading as the employer use the employer path.
Open the Benefits Subgroups area
For employers:
- Select Benefits in the top navigation menu.
- Select Subgroups in the secondary navigation menu.
For Benefits Feature Admins, select Benefits in the top navigation menu. BerniePortal opens the Subgroups list directly.
What you see on the list
The Benefits Subgroups area lists every benefit subgroup for the employer (except the system “none” subgroup).
Each row shows:
- BENEFITS SUBGROUPS — the subgroup name. Employers and Feature Admins can select the name to open that subgroup’s configuration.
- NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES — how many employees are currently assigned to the subgroup.
- ACTIONS (employers only) — open the actions menu on the row to choose Clone or Delete.
If no benefit subgroups exist yet, the page shows: You have not added any subgroups.
Below the list, employers and Feature Admins can create a subgroup from this page:
- In the Benefits Subgroup Name field, enter a name (placeholder: What would you like to call this Benefits Subgroup?).
- Select Add.
