Benefit Subgroup Configuration Area

Once a benefit subgroup is created, you’ll need to configure the subgroup’s settings. To access a benefit subgroup's settings, select the "Benefits" tab in the top navigation menu, select the "Subgroups" tab in the secondary navigation menu, then select the name of the subgroup.

Below is a list of benefit settings that can be managed to create specific benefit offering strategies. 
 
  1. Rename the subgroup: Fill in the subgroup’s name.
  2. Add FEIN (tax ID) numbers: Input appropriate tax ID numbers.
  3. Adjust # of deductions: Select the appropriate number of deductions from the dropdown menu for the subgroup.
    1. Note: If adjusting the number of deductions after you've configured Current and/or Upcoming Offer, be sure to save the Current and/or Upcoming Offer(s). 
  4. Designate the subgroup as a COBRA subgroup: If this subgroup is to be configured as a COBRA subgroup, check the box next to “This is a COBRA subgroup.”
  5. Edit Spousal Surcharge: Available to employers who have spousal surcharge turned “on.” Adjust the amount of additional costs to an employee who is affected by the surcharge per pay period.
  6. Summary Plan Description (SPD): Upload the subgroup’s SPD. Available to employers who have “Distribute Section 125 SPD turned “on.” 
  7. Enrollment Documents: Upload the subgroup’s enrollment documents. To delete any documents, use the action wheel on the right.
  8. Edit Defined Contribution: If you participate in defined contribution, enter the per pay period amounts per bucket here. Defined contribution settings may look different than the example below based on the Benefits | Settings | Defined Contribution area of BerniePortal (additional buckets of contribution). 






Once you’ve configured all available settings, don’t forget to select “Save Changes.”
