BerniePortal Job Posting Standards
When using our recruiting feature, it’s important to follow job posting standards and expectations. Doing so helps maximize visibility and attract the highest number of applicants. Posts that don’t meet these standards may be delayed, or in some cases, may not receive applicants at all. We strongly recommend reviewing them before publishing.
Post only real, open positions.
You must be authorized to post for your company.
Use clear, honest titles and descriptions, no clickbait.
Don’t discriminate based on gender, race, age, religion, or other protected categories.
Include the full job location (or note if it’s remote/hybrid).
Avoid duplicate postings of the same job.
Don’t ask candidates to pay any fees.
Keep language professional and appropriate
When creating job posts or communicating with candidates, never ask for sensitive personal information up front. Examples include:
Social Security number (SSN)
Bank account numbers
Credit card information
Personal ID numbers or documents
Passwords or login info
These questions can violate privacy laws and scare away applicants. Only request this information after a candidate is officially hired in BerniePortal to ensure their information is secure.
Use simple, standard titles (e.g., “Software Engineer”).
Avoid internal jargon or creative names.
Include location or “Remote” if needed.
Break content into sections: Overview, Responsibilities, Requirements, Nice-to-Have, Benefits.
Use short paragraphs or bullet points.
Avoid vague or low-quality descriptions, they may be hidden or ranked lower.
Clearly separate required vs. preferred skills.
Include a salary range if possible.
Highlight benefits like PTO, healthcare, or flexible schedules.
Include keywords candidates might search for—but don’t overstuff.
Use inclusive language.
