What is "Last Sync" and why is it important?

"Last Sync" displays when each carrier most recently synchronized their data with BerniePortal. This information appears in the Manage tab and helps you understand how current the carrier messages and enrollment data are.

What Last Sync Shows

The Last Sync indicator tells you how long ago a specific carrier updated their data. For example, you might see:

  • "14 hours ago, Principal"
  • "2 days ago, Guardian"
  • "Last synced yesterday"

Why It's Important

Even though the Carrier Exchange uses API technology to communicate data, the transmission is not always instantaneous or continuous. Understanding sync timing is important for several reasons:

Different Carrier Schedules Each carrier has its own sync schedule. Some carriers may sync daily, while others sync weekly or at specific times during the week. There's no universal sync schedule across all carriers.

Setting Expectations When you resolve a message in the Manage tab, the corrected information won't reach the carrier immediately—it will sync during the carrier's next scheduled sync. Knowing when the last sync occurred helps you estimate when the next one might happen.

Understanding Message Timeliness If a carrier last synced several days ago, the messages you're seeing may not reflect the most recent state of their records. Conversely, if they synced very recently, you're working with current information.

Troubleshooting If you've resolved an issue but it continues to appear, checking the Last Sync helps you determine whether the carrier simply hasn't synced since your resolution or if there's another problem.

Carrier Sync History

In addition to seeing when individual carriers last synced, you can access the Carrier Sync History to view sync patterns over time. This provides transparency into each carrier's sync frequency and helps you manage expectations about when updates will be communicated.

The variability in sync timing is normal and expected—it's part of how different carriers manage their data systems. The Last Sync feature simply gives you visibility into these schedules so you can work more effectively with the Carrier Exchange.
