What are the minimum group size requirements for carrier integrations?

Minimum group size requirements vary by carrier, with most requiring only 2 enrolled employees to be eligible for integration.

Standard Requirement (2 Employees)

The majority of carriers available through the Carrier Exchange have a minimum group size of just 2 enrolled employees, including:

  • Angle Health
  • Cigna
  • Collective Health
  • Kaiser Permanente
  • UnitedHealthcare (including UnitedHealthcare Oxford)
  • Most Anthem Blue Cross plans (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, Massachusetts)

Higher Requirements

Some carriers require larger group sizes:

50 enrolled employees:

  • Anthem Blue Cross of Kansas City

100 enrolled employees:

  • Aetna
  • Anthem Blue Cross of California (specific plans)
  • Anthem Blue Cross of Oregon
  • Anthem Blue Cross of Utah
  • Anthem Blue Cross of Idaho
  • Anthem Blue Cross of Washington

Important Considerations

  • Group size refers to the number of enrolled employees, not total employees
  • Requirements apply per employer group, not across your entire book of business
  • Some Blue Cross Blue Shield plans have varying requirements depending on the specific plan and state
  • Requirements may change over time as Ideon expands carrier partnerships

If you're unsure whether a specific employer meets the minimum requirements for a particular carrier, the Configure tab will only display employers who have eligible plans. If an employer doesn't appear in your Configure tab, they may not meet the minimum group size or may not have plans from supported carriers.

For the most current group size requirements, contact your BerniePortal Account Manager.
