How To Create Plans in BerniePortal
Before employees can enroll in benefits, create the plans they will be offered.
Who can create a plan
Employers with Benefits enabled can create plans. Global Admins and brokers (including benefit providers and service team members) can also create plans.
To create a new plan:
- Select Benefits in the top navigation menu. The Plans page opens (Benefits → Plans).
- Select Add a new plan.
- In Plan info, complete the required fields, including Plan Name, Benefit Type, Plan Year, and Tax Classification. Employers must also enter a Renewal Date. Additional options appear based on the benefit type you choose.
- If you selected Health as the benefit type, choose Ask for PCP or Do not ask for PCP. These options appear for Health plans only.
- If your broker has added carrier forms, select Add Form to attach the form(s).
- In Message to employees, enter Message text, a Helpful website title and Helpful website URL, and/or a YouTube Video URL for employees to see while making elections.
- In Plan Documents, attach documents such as SBCs or marketing materials by dragging files into the upload area, or use click to browse files. For full document steps, see How To Attach Documents to a Plan.
- Select Save changes.
BernieTip: For Health plans, some toggles default to values such as Do not ask for PCP (PCP = Primary Care Physician). Confirm the Health-only PCP setting before you continue.
Set premiums by plan type
After you select Save changes, BerniePortal opens the plan’s Premiums tab. Required fields vary by benefit type. Use these guides for common plan types:
