EOI Windows control how long a To Do - Pending EOI request can stay open before BerniePortal automatically denies it. The countdown starts the day the employee completes their benefit enrollment.
To set the EOI window:
- As the employer (including a Global Admin signed in as the employer), select the "Benefits" tab in the top navigation bar.
- Select the "Settings" tab in the secondary navigation bar.
- Select "General" from the left side menu.
- Under "Auto-deny EOI (Evidence of Insurability) requests if the request has not been approved or denied within a given window (within ___ days of completing benefit enrollment)," choose a window from the dropdown: No Window, 30 Days, 40 Days, 50 Days, 75 Days, or 100 Days.
The setting saves as soon as you choose an option — there is no separate save button.
What the window controls
- BerniePortal counts the window from the day the employee completes their benefit enrollment, not from when the EOI request is created.
- Selecting "No Window" turns off the automatic denial; pending EOI requests stay open until an admin approves or denies them.
- New accounts default to 75 Days until you change the setting.
- Seven days before a request is set to be denied, BerniePortal emails the employee and any interested parties configured to receive EOI notifications in Email Settings - Benefits. The employee gets another email when the request is actually denied, if that notification is turned on for them.
- The window applies across every benefit that requires EOI — including Level Term Life guaranteed-issue elections — it isn't set per benefit.
