Payroll Tax Management: How BerniePortal Handles Tax Filings for Payroll Clients

For BerniePortal Payroll clients, Certified Payroll Tax Professionals handle tax calculation support, filings, remittances, and year-end forms so employers can focus on day-to-day payroll accuracy.

What's Included

During Payroll Implementation

Employers provide tax IDs for applicable federal, state, and local agencies with supporting documentation, and complete new-client paperwork that includes authorizations (including Power of Attorney) so the tax team can retrieve filing frequencies, rates, and account details and resolve discrepancies with agencies.

Mid-Year Transitions

If you start mid-year, BerniePortal takes over tax processing beginning with your first payroll run in the system. Payroll history from your prior provider is imported, and BerniePortal assumes quarterly filing responsibility for quarters that overlap the transition so you receive a complete quarter summary.

Ongoing Support

Throughout the year, withholdings, remittances, and filings are managed for you. Forward tax-agency correspondence to Employer Success — see How to Handle Tax Notices from State or Federal Agencies.

Employer Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate tax IDs for all applicable jurisdictions
  • Determine which state and local taxes apply based on where employees work and live
  • Verify that the correct state and local withholdings appear on employee payments
