How to Mark an Employer Inactive or Active

Use Active Status to turn an employer client off or back on. Marking an employer inactive immediately ends access and billing for that employer. Reactivating does not restore features or billing that were turned off.

Who this is for

Agencies, brokers, and service team members who do not have read-only access.

Mark an employer inactive
  1. In the top navigation, select Employer List. For more on this page, see Employer List.
  2. Select the employer name in the Employer Name column.
  3. In the tertiary navigation, select Active Status.
  4. Turn off This employer is active.
  5. In the Mark [employer name] as Inactive? window, review what will be turned off.
  6. Select the acknowledgment checkbox: I understand all features and billing will be terminated immediately and that reactivating this employer will not restore them.
  7. Select Mark as inactive.
The employer and all employees lose access to BerniePortal immediately, and billing stops across active services. On Employer List, the employer appears under Inactive Employers.

Mark an employer active again
  1. Open Employer List and switch the status dropdown to Inactive Employers.
  2. Select the employer name.
  3. Select Active Status.
  4. Turn on This employer is active.
Reactivating restores access to the employer account. It does not automatically restore features or billing that were terminated when the employer was marked inactive.
