How to Message a Candidate

Streamline your candidate communication with BerniePortal's integrated messaging system. Keep all interview scheduling, updates, and correspondence organized in one centralized location for efficient hiring conversations.

To access: 
  1. Log in to BerniePortal as the employer or a Recruiting feature administrator
  2. Select “Recruiting” in the top navigation menu
  3. Locate candidates using either method:
    1. Job-Specific View: Select the relevant job from "Job List" to see all applicants for that position
    2. All Candidates View: Access the "Candidates" menu to see applicants across all jobs 


To create a new message:
  1. Select the candidate’s name to open their Candidate profile and then “Messages” in the left-hand navigation menu

  2. Select “Create New Message” in blue

  3. Craft your message- 
    1. Job- Choose the applicable position from the dropdown menu
    2. Subject- Create a clear, professional message title
    3. Template- Select from pre-built employer “templates” for consistent communication (optional)
    4. File Attachments- Include relevant documents as needed (optional)
    5. Message Content- Write or customize your message, then click "Post" to send”

To view existing message threads:
  1. Existing message chains will be listed in the “Messages” area of the candidate's application with the applicable job, message subject, and most recent message date.

  2. Thread access- Click any message title to open the full conversation and send replies
  3. Quick actions- Use the action wheel to delete unnecessary message threads
  4. Unread Indicators- Messages display with numbered bubbles showing unread message count
