How much does the Carrier Exchange cost?

Carrier Exchange billing depends on each employer's active integrations, enrolled employees, and Carrier Exchange billing settings. Your account may use standard defaults, custom rates, or a no-cost arrangement.


How Carrier Exchange is billed

  • Charges apply only to Active carrier integrations. Integrations in Pending status are not billed.
  • Amounts are calculated per enrollee (employees with elections on the integrated carrier), not total employees.
  • For each employer, the carrier with the most enrollments is the Primary Carrier and uses the primary rate. Each additional integrated carrier uses the other-carrier rate.
  • Pricing is calculated separately for each employer group.
  • Disabled integrations are not billed.

Standard default rates

When Carrier Exchange billing uses the standard defaults, the rates are:

  • $0.95 per enrollee per month for the Primary Carrier (most enrolled)
  • $0.45 per enrollee per month for Other Carriers

These are defaults. An employer's Carrier Exchange billing settings can use different primary and other-carrier rates, including $0.

  • No-cost arrangements, when applicable to your agreement with BerniePortal
  • Implementation or renewal fees, when configured on the employer's Carrier Exchange billing settings

Who gets invoiced

Carrier Exchange charges can be billed to the Agency or the Employer, based on the employer's Carrier Exchange billing settings (including the Who Should Be Invoiced? choice during configuration)
