How to Complete Employer Portion of I-9 Onboarding Document

Once an employee completes an I-9 in BerniePortal, the employee’s documents must be reviewed and approved by an admin in order for them to be completely onboarded. 


Incomplete I-9 documents can be accessed three ways in BerniePortal:
  1. Via the "To Do" list on the Home Screen. 
  2. Via an employee’s “I-9 Badge.”
  3. Via an employee’s onboarding area in their profile. 

To review and approve an employee’s I-9:

  1. Select the “Employees” tab in the top navigation menu. 
  2. Locate the employee’s name and select the “I-9 Badge” beside their name. 

  3. You can also select the employee’s name, select “Onboarding” in the employee's profile menu, then “Current Documents.”

  4. The employee’s I-9 will be listed in the “Incomplete (Employer Information Needed)” status.
  5. Hover over the action wheel for the I-9 and select "Complete."

  6. Select “Download PDF” to access the employee’s I-9 form and supporting documentation.

  7. Complete the required fields, then select “Submit & Send.”
  8. The employee’s I-9 will now be listed in the “Complete” status, their “I-9 Badge” will disappear, and the employee will no longer be listed in the “I-9 Certifications” area of the “To Do” list.
