Use Current Bills in BernieBill to review the upcoming billing period for each enabled provider, open billing rules, and (on carrier bills) terminate an employee or change an effective date before the bill is finalized. Employers do not manually generate bills—bills auto-generate on the carrier schedule and then appear under Past Bills.
Who this is for
Employers with BernieBill enabled and at least one billable provider, and Feature Admins who can access bills for that employer. Global Administrators reach these screens after login while masqueraded as the employer.
To access Current Bills:
- Log in to BerniePortal
- Select BernieBill in the top navigation
- Select Current Bills in the secondary navigation
- In the left sidebar, select a benefit carrier, BerniePortal, BerniePortal Subscription, or COBRA/Pre-Tax (as available for your employer)
If your secondary navigation shows Upcoming Bill instead of Current Bills, use the steps under To review Upcoming Bill below.
To review a benefit carrier bill:
- Select the carrier in the left sidebar
- Review employees and charges under each plan-type heading; select a column header to sort
- Review the Adjustments section when it appears below the plan tables
- Review Total at the bottom of the bill
To terminate an employee from a carrier bill:
- On the carrier bill, open the actions menu in the Actions column for the employee row
- Select Terminate
- Complete the termination in the dialog
The Actions column is available before the bill is finalized. You can also select Change Effective Date or Change effective date from that menu when the row allows it. Termination updates the employee record and refreshes the bill.
To review billing rules:
- On the provider bill, select Review billing Rules
- Read the Billing Rules content in the dialog
To download a PDF of the current carrier bill:
- When Download a PDF of Bill appears on the carrier bill header, select it
To review BerniePortal or BerniePortal Subscription:
- In the left sidebar, select BerniePortal or BerniePortal Subscription
- Review the charges and Total for that bill
- Select Review billing Rules when you need the rules for that bill
To review Upcoming Bill:
When BernieBill shows Upcoming Bill in the secondary navigation instead of Current Bills:
- Select BernieBill in the top navigation
- Select Upcoming Bill in the secondary navigation
- Review Upcoming Bill — [month] and the Total across all providers
- Under Cost Breakdown, expand providers in Consolidated Bill and Billed Separately as needed
- If Add Missing Payment Methods appears, select it to add payment methods
History for generated bills is under Billing History when this navigation is shown, or under Past Bills when the secondary navigation uses that label. See Past Bills. Related Articles
