Use Correct mistake to reopen benefit elections an employee already made when they need to fix an enrollment election mistake. The option is available within 30 days of the plan effective date. Eligible benefit types come from the employee's prior enrollment history.
When to use:
Use Correct Mistake when the employee enrolled in the right offering but chose the wrong plan, coverage level, or waiver for a benefit type they already had available.
When not to use:
- Do not use Correct Mistake to fix a wrong benefits offering, subgroup, or offer configuration. Use How to Force Reset Benefits Subgroup instead (in-app: Change subgroup).
- If a new benefit type was added to the offer after the employee enrolled, it will not appear under Correct Mistake. Use Force Reset / Change subgroup.
- Do not use Qualifying Event to correct an enrollment election mistake.
Who this is for
Employers and Feature Admins can open Correct mistake when Benefits is enabled for the employer and the employee is eligible (the employee is not terminated, has completed onboard verification, is not already unlocked for a Qualifying Event or Correct Mistake, is not in a Benefits None subgroup, and is within the 30-day Correct Mistake window from the plan effective date).
To open Correct Mistake:
- Select Employees in the top navigation.
- Find the employee, open the action wheel, and select Correct mistake.
- Under For which benefit types do you want to enable changes?, select the benefit types to unlock, or select All.
- Select Submit.
After you submit, the employee shows as Awaiting elections. Opening Correct Mistake clears the employee's current elections for the benefit types you selected so they can re-elect. The employee can then log in to BerniePortal and complete enrollment for those benefit types.
Prior Offer and Current Offer:
If the employee is eligible to change elections for both Prior Offer and Current Offer plans based on their effective dates, they complete two enrollments (Prior Offer, then Current Offer). Learn more:
