Understanding Current Offer vs. Upcoming Offer vs. Prior Offer and the Offer Overview Area

It’s important to understand the difference between Prior Offer, Current Offer and Upcoming Offer in BerniePortal, and where to view these sets of benefits.

To view:
  1. Select “Benefits” in the top navigation menu, then “Subgroups” in the secondary navigation menu.
  2. Select a subgroup.
  3. Select “Offer Overview” in the left navigation menu.

Prior Offer - the set of benefits that were offered to a new hire whose benefits effective date was before the renewal date of the renewal group that triggered open enrollment. Based on an employee's effective date, they may be eligible to enroll in Prior Offer plans. Check out the Prior Offer FAQs article to learn more!

Current Offer - the set of benefits that would be offered to a new hire whose benefits effective date is on or after the renewal date of the renewal group that triggered open enrollment. Current Offer benefits are considered the “active” benefits in BerniePortal.

Upcoming Offer - the set of benefits that will be offered to employees for open enrollment once enrollment is opened in BerniePortal. These benefits are not “active” until open enrollment is opened.

*It's important to note that while configuring "Upcoming Offer" allows employees to make open enrollment elections, you should think about "Upcoming Offer as the full suite of benefits that a new hire should be able to elect. Once open enrollment has been opened for an employer, the benefits configured in "Upcoming Offer" will move to "Current Offer" and new hires will make elections from "Current Offer" benefits.

Opening enrollment in BerniePortal triggers:
  1. The benefits in “Upcoming Offer” to become the benefits in “Current Offer.”
  2. The benefits in “Current Offer” to become the benefits in “Prior Offer.”
