BerniePortal Payroll can send retirement contribution data to supported 401(k) providers through a one-way (180-degree) integration. Contribution amounts are maintained in BerniePortal and passed to the provider; changes made only on the provider side do not sync back automatically.
What Is a 180-Degree Integration
A 180-degree integration is a one-way connection from BerniePortal to your 401(k) provider. Contribution amounts entered in BerniePortal are passed to the provider on each pay run. A 360-degree sync (provider changes flowing back into payroll automatically) is not available.
Contributions
Employee contribution amounts are set up in BerniePortal (with Employer Success as needed). On each pay run, those contributions are included in payroll and passed to the provider through the integration.
Employee Changes on the Provider Side
If an employee changes their contribution on the provider's platform, that change does not update BerniePortal automatically. Update the contribution in BerniePortal so both systems stay aligned.
Employer Match and Reporting
Plan-level match logic, participant reporting, and compliance filings on the plan side are handled by your 401(k) provider. For BerniePortal-side employer match auto-calculation setup, see the match FAQ in Payroll FAQs.
