Viewing and Editing a Subgroup's Number of Pay Periods

Each benefit subgroup has a Number of Deductions setting that controls how many times premiums are deducted per year. View or change it on the subgroup Configure page under Subgroup Information.

Who can view and edit

Employers with Benefits enabled, and Benefits Feature Admins with access to the subgroup, can view and change Number of Deductions. Users masquerading as the employer use the employer path. Brokers and other broker-or-above users can open Configure in view-only mode; the field is disabled and Save changes is not available.

To view or edit Number of Deductions:
  1. Select Benefits in the top navigation menu.
  2. Select Subgroups in the secondary navigation menu.
  3. In the BENEFITS SUBGROUPS column, select the subgroup name.
  4. On Configure (selected by default), under Subgroup Information, find Number of Deductions.
  5. To change the value, open the Number of Deductions dropdown and select an option (for example Weekly (52 deductions), Biweekly (26 deductions), Semi Monthly (24 deductions), or Monthly (12 deductions)). Other options are 48 deductions, 10 deductions, 9 deductions, 18 deductions, and 20 deductions.
  6. Select Save changes at the bottom of the page.
For Benefits Feature Admins, select Benefits in the top navigation menu (BerniePortal opens the Subgroups list), then select the subgroup name and continue from step 4.

After you change Number of Deductions

If you change Number of Deductions and select Save changes, BerniePortal opens Update Contributions After Changing Deductions. The reminder explains that updating the number of deductions does not automatically recalculate employee or employer contributions for the current or upcoming offer.

  1. Select Change Deductions to confirm and save the new number of deductions.
  2. Or select Cancel to close the reminder without confirming the deduction change.
After you confirm, review and update contribution amounts for both the upcoming and current offers so employee and employer contributions match the new per-pay-period total premium. See Current Offer - Benefits and How to Configure Upcoming Offer - Benefits.

COBRA subgroups
