Your subgroup library will display a list of already created subgroups, organized by category. These categories vary based on what features of BerniePortal your employer utilizes. Each subgroup has an associated reference code, listed to the right of each subgroup name.
The "Subgroups" area is accessed by selecting the "Account" dropdown, then "Subgroups."
To add a new subgroup:
Select "Add a New Subgroup" in the top right corner.
Use the "Where is it used" dropdown to determine which type of subgroup you'd like to add.
Enter the name of the new subgroup.
Select "Add."
BerniePortal is equipped with a variety of subgroup types that help you create a unique and customized experience. Navigate in the sections below to learn more.
Benefit Subgroups:
Benefit subgroups allow employers to base their benefit offerings (contributions, plans, number of deductions) around different groups of employees.
Access a benefit subgroup from the subgroups menu in your "Employer Profile" or from the "Subgroups" area in your "Benefits" feature.
Benefits Eligibility Subgroups:
Benefits Eligibility subgroups give you the power to set different effective date settings. BerniePortal offers a wide range of settings for both waiting periods and term dates.
To set/edit waiting periods and termination dates:
Hover over the action wheel for the "Benefits Eligibility" subgroups and select "Set Rules."
Use the dropdown menus for each benefit type to set waiting periods and termination dates.
Select the box if all waiting periods and termination dates should be the same for all plan types.
Select "Save."
Billing Subgroups:
Set up to 3 different types of billing subgroups (primary, secondary, and tertiary) to help organize your billing integrations.
Billing subgroups are a great way to organize multi-location employers.
PTO Subgroups:
PTO subgroups allow you to allocate different amounts and different strategies of paid time off for specific groups of employees.
This provides you an opportunity to develop unique time off rewards for your employees as they grow within the company.
Payroll Subgroups:
Payroll subgroups allow you to set pay periods and check dates for specific groups of employees.
From payroll frequency to adjusting certain dates, you have the freedom to choose how your subgroups’ payroll should be prescribed.
Compliance Subgroups:
Compliance subgroups ensure that the correct notices and information is sent to the right employees.
You’ll be able to send specific compliance documents to different types of employees based on their subgroup.
Time Subgroups:
Time subgroups give you the flexibility to set multiple time settings for different employees.
1094-C ALE Subgroups:
Generally speaking, the number of 1094-C subgroups corresponds to the number of FEINs under which the employer pays its employees.
Placing employees in the correct 1094-C subgroups allows for quick and easy 1095 form generation.
Performance Subgroups:
Performance subgroups allow you to send out different surveys to groups of individuals, as well as document and conduct 1:1’s.
