Onboarding Document Categories

Document categories group onboarding paperwork. BerniePortal includes five standard categories—W-9, I-9, W-4, Direct deposit authorization, and State Withholding—and you can add custom categories. Custom category order controls the order employees complete paperwork during onboarding. Standard categories cannot be renamed, reordered, or deleted.

To access:
  1. Log in as the employer or an Onboarding Feature Admin.
  2. Select Onboarding.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Document Categories.
To create a category:
  1. Enter a name in Add a Category (placeholder: Add a custom category here).
  2. Select Add.
Category names must be unique. To put documents in a category, use the Onboarding Document Library.

To reorder custom categories:
  1. Drag a custom category by the handle next to its name to the position you want.
Only custom categories can be reordered. Standard categories stay fixed at the bottom of the list.

To edit a custom category:
  1. Open the actions gear for the category.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Update Label.
  4. Select Update.
To delete a custom category:
  1. Open the actions gear for the category.
  2. Select Delete.
  3. Select Confirm.
Deleting a category cannot be undone in the product. Documents in that category are removed from active use, and related employee assignments for that category are cleared.
