Employers and Feature Admins can update salaries for multiple employees at once with a spreadsheet from Employees > Mass Update.
To update salaries via spreadsheet:
- Go to Employees in the top navigation.
- Select Mass Update in the secondary navigation.
- Select Mass Update.
- In the Mass Update window, select Download to get the employee template. You must use this template or the import will not work.
- Fill in salary columns for each employee you are updating: First Name, Last Name, Employee SSN, New Salary, Salary Type, and Salary effective date (mm/dd/yyyy).
- Under Upload your data, select the completed spreadsheet file (.xlsx or .xls).
- Leave Email employees new election sheets if the update impacts benefits. checked to email new election sheets when benefits are affected, or clear the checkbox to skip those emails.
- Select Import.
After a successful import, BerniePortal shows how many employees were updated.
Notes:
- Salary Type must be Per Year or Per Hour.
- Salary effective date (mm/dd/yyyy) must use date format mm/dd/yyyy in a Date-formatted column.
- Employee SSN is used to match each employee. Enter digits only, or with dashes; dashes are removed on import.
- If a salary change affects salary-based benefits (for example Long Term Disability), BerniePortal generates new election sheets. Emails are sent only when the checkbox above is selected.

To view salary update history for an employee:
- Go to Employees in the top navigation.
- Select the employee's name.
- Select Payroll in the employee menu.
- If Paystubs and Compensation tabs appear, select Compensation.
The table lists salary changes. The Action Taken column shows Mass Update or Individual Update.
