How to Decline a Candidate

Maintain organized candidate records and professional relationships with BerniePortal's thoughtful candidate decline process. Keep your talent pipeline current while preserving positive connections for future opportunities.

To access: 
  1. Log in to BerniePortal as the employer or a Recruiting feature administrator
  2. Select “Recruiting” in the top navigation menu
  3. Choose your preferred decline method:
    1. Quick Decline: Select the "Candidates" in the secondary menu for efficient bulk management
    2. Detailed Decline: Select a candidate's name to view individual candidate applications for personalized handling


To decline a candidate:

  1. Hover over the candidate’s action wheel from the candidate listing and select “Decline”

  2. Configure decline settings- 
    1. Choose the specific job position for the decline decision
    2. Decide whether to notify the candidate of your decision
      1.  Select "I want to notify the candidate" to send closure communication

      2. The standard decline message can be personalized to provide constructive feedback, express appreciation for their interest, or encourage future applications when appropriate
    3. Click "Decline" to finalize

To decline a candidate:
  1. Select the candidate’s name from the listing

  2. Select “Decline” as the final Hiring Stage

  3. Configure decline settings-  
    1. Consider a candidate for future positions
      1. Check "Consider this candidate for a future position" to maintain them in your talent pool
    2. Decide whether to notify the candidate of your decision
      1.  Select "I want to notify the candidate" to send closure communication

      2. The standard decline message can be personalized to provide constructive feedback, express appreciation for their interest, or encourage future applications when appropriate
    3. Click "Decline" to finalize
