An employee's information in BerniePortal is causing an error

This error is triggered when the formatting of an employee's information in BerniePortal does not meet the formatting requirements for files sent to the IRS. Special characters (-,#&) or missing address fields are the most common reason for this error. Another reason is the employee's state is not in BerniePortal as a 2-letter abbreviation, which triggers an error with the IRS.

To correct these errors, you will need to do the following:
  1. Log into the employer account in BerniePortal.
  2. Click on "1094C/1095C" at the top of the page.
  3. Click "List".
  4. Find the employee whose information needs to be corrected.
You will need to update the information here:
  1. Hover over the action wheel and click "Edit":

    1. In "Part I. Employee Information", update the fields that need to be edited.
    2. Push "Save Changes". There is no need to mark "Corrected Form".
  2. To ensure this is also corrected for next year's filing, click on the employee's name in blue:

    1. This will take you to their BerniePortal employee profile.
    2. Click the pencil in the "Personal Info" or "Contact Info" section and update the fields that need to be edited.
    3. Click "Save".
